I don't want to hijack the thread on Anchorage or Marina, but Rivonia(?) posted that he is forced to keep his boat in a marina while his boat is FOR SALE.

Surely it would be better to wait it out with the boat hauled in one of the Preveza Yards? Or go into a Marina from a close-by anchorage for prospective buyers to view only after they have made contact.

It is very expensive in a Mediterranean Marina (£2,500 a year for a catamaran at least).

My interest is only curiosity as I would think a return to UK would be better all-round.

There is no easy answer. If the boat is not easily accessible at all times you miss out on browsers who may be potential buyers. Ideally buyers prefer to see a boat presented for sale in showroom condition - difficult to achieve if you are still using it and not berthed in a marina. On the other hand boats hauled out and not constantly cared for can deteriorate rapidly.

Think back to your own search, viewing and buying to assess which type of presentation you preferred.

I viewed and bought my boat when she was hauled out mainly because I would rather have a sound hull where osmosis would cost a lot more than (for instance) an engine replacement. Also if she did need a new engine I would gain the benifit from that whereas a hull repair would cost a lot and only put the boat back in a condition it should have been in anyway. When a boat is hauled for the winter is a trade off between inspection of what is immediately accessable and a risk of what comes out of the woodwork when launched. It took me six month to commission her before launch. The previous owner could have had her in the water inside three weeks because he knew the quirks of the engine etc.

The best of both worlds would be a marina view and engine test along with sail inspection that were already hanked on and accessable. Then haul her for a determined survey. But that approach which may be best for a buyer would be expensive for a seller and would load the asking price. I had virtually no choice because the boats I was interested in were hauled out for the winter.

Anyway I am just curious to hear the sellers point of view.
