I'm fed up with pulling up the anchor by hand so have decided to fit an electric windlass. As I know nothing about these any help would be very welcome

Does anyone one know the factory option for a Bayliner 2855? or does anyone know a suitable windlass and what should I be looking for?

Any help would be gratefully received.

on sailyboats, it seems midrange ones need the engine on to get enuf juice, which doesn't seem much hardship and ahem (hiya JoeV) could actually be a positive advantage.

One idea would be an extra car battery at the bows (needs clamping in obviously) then trickle charge to than instead of having woompah massive cables the whole length of the boat?

Main thing obviously is to get a dead cheap one, possibly secondhand. Even better, get the kids to do it. Or swmbo, ha! ooer sorry...

Cables are already there (factory fitted) which is why I thought the safest bet would be fit the same

Whats a Gypsy? do I need one of them.

Yo Gip-Sehhh!!

i think in this context the gipsy is the thing the chain sits on and is part of the windlass anchor thingy. No real need to identify the individual bits as it's all called "doing the anchor" esp if lectric.

Otherwise it seem to be a term of mocking ridicule of someone trying and failing to be posh or smartly dressed, i think, and pronounced (by my kids anyway) as in title of this post.

A 'Gipsy' is the drum on top of the 'windlass' that enables you to take a 'bite' of the anchor 'warp' and wind in the 'warp' that the anchor chain is attached to. The 'windlass' has got a drum that specifically takes the chain.

Re: Yo Gip-Sehhh!!

Forget secondhand,
Been looking for 6 months, only corroded or overstressed or overpriced at this end of the market.

Take a look at "Quick" vertical windlasses they seem good value & well made.

Bayliner owners club may help with the factory fit option, give them a try.
