I am looking for a product that I have seen used on a number of boats where the bow roller is too small to take a conventional shakle.

The device concerned is shaped like a bullet, appears to have a slot in each end through which a pin is inserted to attach one end to the chain and the other to the shank of the anchor. Some of these connectors also appear to incorporate a swivel.

Any ideas as to where I can get this product from?

Anchor swivels are available from most chandlers. There can be electrolytic action between dissimilar metals so watch the lower links of the chain if you're connecting directly for eary signs of rust. Also connecting these devices (I use one) directly to the anchor without a horseshoe shackle interspersed, can result in dangerously high side forces being placed on the cheeks of the swivel as the boat swings in the tide at anchor. Recovering it by power windlass when it's caught on a rock can also cause damage if the anchor can only swing in one plane on the end of the chain.

The best quality model IMO is the Kong because it doesn't rely upon the screws holding it together for attachment to the anchor and chain.

Agree about the Kong but I have to say that I have a relatively basic, non swivel, connector and have twice exerted 'significant' forces whilst trying to get the anchor out of a rocky grave. On one occassion I cut and buoyed the line and went back the next day to continue the tussle! The point here is that whilst I managed to put a 25 degree bend in the stock of a stainless 10kg bruce the screw/bolts of the link held fine (to my surprise) although they must have been under some lateral forces from time to time in the struggle!

I've got both sizes in stock suitable for 8mm & 10mm chain both supplied by Plastimo so ask your local swindlery for them.
I've also started stocking "Chain Rainbow" which are small coloured plastic pieces which fit in between the links for depth marking, amazingly they work with a windlass and so far have only had good reports on them, beats cutting your hands on cable ties.

Regards Bob.
