It's that "What Now Skipper" time of the month again. Please read the scenario below and let us know what you would do in this situation. As usual the best and/or funniest answers will be published in the next issue of MBY.

"You anchored in a popular bay at mid morning in fine weather. Since then, several other yachts and motor cruisers have arrived and by 1600 it’s a bit crowded. The weather is still good with a gentle onshore breeze, but an ominous low, dark cloud is rapidly approaching from seaward. There’s a flurry of activity as people weigh anchor. When you try, your Danforth comes up with a link of someone else’s chain firmly jammed on one tip. What now?"

Thanks

Hugo

Use a white flare to burn through the chain link and attract lots of attention from nearby skipperss. Then hand both ends to the rightful owner, and depart.

Admit defeat and have another G&T (oh, and question why you didn't buy a delta!).

You cant have "another" G&T cos the breathalyzer buoys will get you /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re deploy it,extract another cold one from the fridge and wait for whoever's anchor chain it was that you were caught on to retrieve and allow them the courtesy of getting thier link off your anchor.

are we being practical or having a laugh? if a proper answer is needed, do this, take a rope around the chain and secure to strong point on your boat, then let your anchor go, with luck it will clear, then haul, and then release your nieghbours chain

Knock it off with the hammer from your tool-kit..... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

you got there first.............. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

if this won't remove it , and you can't attract the attention of the boat owner, then undo your anchor from your rode and shackle it to his chain - he will appreciate the extra holding of tandem anchors and you were doubless going to replace a danforth with a delsparocman anyway.

That’s easy……………

Engage reverse and check which boat moves, release the tension, pick up the anchor and knock off the chain. Make sure you have released the other anchor, pull along side the other boat and hand it back to them, explaining that you are testing 10 anchors for MBY Monthly and you think the one you are currently using dragged badly. You have found out that they don’t subscribe to MBY Monthly, but you tell them that they will be mentioned and the article may appear in the next 3 mths, thus ensuring they buy the next 3 copies at least. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Tell them you will have to try again so they are free to go. Drop anchor, wait for the cloud to blow over and enjoy the peaceful evening sunshine with only a few boats left. Then have another G&T and another and another Hic!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Edited due to bad spelling!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wowww..

If you put email addresses in the forums, spambots will find them and annoy the owner of the email address.

Jeeze, are you serious Hugo? :-) You just remove the caught chain from your anchor (using rope, hammer, other things, as necessary) and carry on having a nice day. And make sure the other guy knows so he can look out for his own anchor having been un-set or shifted during the process. And other general commonsense things.

In some places in the Med (monaco, St Trop) it can be bad form to wind your anchor in indiscriminately. You should call the diver to float it out , and guide it under any chains that have been laid on top of it as you wind it in

Did this off the Tudwells islands some years ago, we were diving early morning, as we surfaced, we found ourselves surrounded by six power boats all on the hook, proceeded to plait all the chain and await the result.
What fun! and we assume that that all thed skippers then knew what the "A" flag represented.
Grown up now of course!!!!!!!!

No sympathy at all.Serves you right for having your boat based in the Solent in the first place. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
