Anyone else done this one?

At anchor last Sunday. As I winched it up, just as it went into its housing it twisted and jammed. The chap who sorted it out for me called this morning to say it had required "the big crowbar" to get it free.

On reflection, we had been anchored over the turn of the tide and had certainly swung round a fair bit so maybe I should have stopped the windlass as the anchor broke the surface of the water to give the chain a chance to unwind?

Just be carefull it doesn't swing back in to the hull if your motoring with it hanging down! but generally we let it settle about 1ft under the surface before bringing it up, to let it's self align. But only for a few seconds (or as long as it needs).
