We have a Mercruiser 350 MAG. It has a standard dashboard analogue temperature gauge and also a Smartcraft digital system.

Everything is running just fine.

The Smartcraft digital is reporting the temperature as 68 to 71 degrees C during both low and high speed running which seems fine to me. The analogue gauge is reading just over 175 degrees F which seems higher than it was in previous years. Now 68 C is 154 F so its a definitely high reading on the analogue gauge.

Any ideas? Are they fed from different senders?

Yes, one is an analogue sender the other digital. They will be mounted on or near the thermostat housing, the analogue will be a single wire the digital 2 or 3 wires. Check the connections on the analogue first or it could be the sender is on its way out.

Why dont you buy one of those hand held Temperature Sensors where you pull the trigger, and point at the engine, a beam of infra red light rests on what you have pointed at and gives you a temperature reading. Conformation at least.
