On Friday early morning last week Gertha decided to allow the set screws ,that had been happily holding the autopilot bracket for 35 years, time to stop holding.
For 8 hours we hand steered with odd noises and interesting seas.
Tied up in Las Palmas at about midday , whilst crew negotiated the clear in process, me with obviously a spare hour opened lazerete to find steering fault.
Whilst Marga the crew was complementing the 4 healthy men in the office and there inability to clear us ; problem with a computer saying "no" . I was discussing with Raymarine a new autopilot that had been dancing around my Lazerete unaccompanied .
Monday morning having established broken part was not a regular spare part, the guys at Raymarine found a way to source part. It could of been my threat of bursting into tears if they could not help.
Many thanks to the tec help and all others at Raymarine, I have parts to hand and Gertha should be able to do a quick Atlantic romp with autopilot all sorted.
I have no connection with Raymarine , good service deserves a thank you.
