An Interesting Question n/b

With all the posts to this forum on the fox hunting debate. I had to ask myself a couple of questions.
1. What about domestic cats.
2. How many posters that are against fox hunting own cats.

It occured to me that the beloved domestic cat is responsible for killing more Briish wild life in one year than all the hunting this century. It kills for fun, very often takes it's time in doing so. It doesn't normally need to kill for food. Admiring owners often boast about their cats ability to kill birds, mice, voles, rabbits etc without a thought to the suffering that the poor creature went through to be dropped on the kitchen floor probably still alive.

Maybe along with a hunting ban we should consider including cats?

You missed jumping to the obvious conclusion.

Ban fox-hunting, but make it legal to hunt cats. You know, the whole nine metres - horses, drinkies, red coats, bowler hats, whippers in, whip it out, being blessed by the rural dean, blooding the little ghouls faces with the cat's whiskers, slavering dogs.

Think of the benefits. Blacksmiths, ostlers, vets, grooms and red coat manufacturers are rescued from the scrapheap. Those boorish country people will stay in their mansions in Great Buggering in the Wold and won't come up to town making Parliament Square look untidy. And we see the welcome return of the cheeky sparrer.

I warn you, start hunting cats and you'll be knee deep in mice before long. Why not cut out the middle-man (middle-cat?) and hunt mice instead? Mind you the Unspeakables would have to breed an especially small terrier to get around to digging them out!

I totally agree. I have a longish garden with about eight smaller gardens backing on to it. Each house has at least one cat. Various birds nest in my garden, including a pair of song thrushes. Each year for the last five years all the song thrush chicks have been killed. The score this spring was seven chicks, including two song thrushes. The rest were blackbird, wren (I think) and a couple which I could not identify. A couple of months ago, I found the song thrush female dead. I keep a catapault and a box of golf balls by the back door!
