I occasionally receive newsletters from these Swedish brokers who specialise in commercial craft, and this gem arrived a couple of days ago.

Here is one of the German offshore cruising lifeboats being offered for sale - no indication of asking price, just 'offers invited'.

I know it would be hopelessly impractical and unrealistic in every way imaginable to convert her into a yacht, but just imagine the possibilities - she would be a true expedition ship with a difference (to the usual run of the mill type of trawler yachts that are offered as such).

A very tidy bit of kit considering that it was built in 1985. Clearly well looked after and as you say, what a serious cruising boat it would make.

It may depend on how serious of a conversion you plan Martin. To get enough sail to make her move with any pace, off the wind of course, there would need to be some serious cutting and shutting of the super-structure and modifying the deck area to lose the tender launch/retrieve system. Maybe a ketch rig?

At 66 tonnes she is no lightweight, and heavily built plate at 8-12 mm, a robust outfit for sure. You would need to be dedicated to finish that job :)
