In the same vein that the Isle of Wight has it's Round the Island race, is there (has there ever been?) a similar race around Anglesey? Other than the potential danger of lots of boats racing through The Swellies at the same time are any other serious risks?
PS
I do not intend trying to take Blue Moon around the island at full speed. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Google ---- 'round anglesey record'.

About third one down.
Me mates did a record rib dash around the Island.
Don't ask me to put a link thinghy in ere.
Yer knows I,m puter thick like!

I reckon we can beat it in Blue Moon.

Fancy a Bash? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Fancy a bash in Blue Moon? Have you been hitting the alcopops a bit early tonight? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Nevertheless, it would be an interesting endurance (by Moony's standards) challenge.

Hi Lawsy, here is a link to the rules for an attempt at the record for RIB's

RIB RULES

The current record set in 07 by two local men Ian Greenwood and David Manning for the 68Nm trip stands at 1hr 35m 10s, hell of a run round averaging 48mph!

I have made several circumnavigations, a couple on one tide. My best run was in 05 whilst being examined for my Intermediate certificate with a terrific RYA instructor on board when we completed the run in just under 3.5 hours including a stop into Victoria Dock.

It was blowing a F4/5 and raining when we departed Conwy, the boat was two days old. The instructor issued us with full foul weather gear and helmets and we were off!

I wouldn't want to do it again in such conditions but it gave me great confidence in the boat and allowed us to put into practice the chart work completed the previous day in the classroom, I still use the notes now.

This is a picture of us at the stop in Caernarfon-

I love planning and executing the longer trips to Ireland and the IOM but the run around the Island is my favourite, loads to see and lots of hazards to keep you on your toes.

I am not aware of a power boat event or record, but I would be up for joining in a run around again this summer.

OK Little Ship is up for the challenge...... last year we did it in ahemm 5days! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif but I think with a little pushing I could do it in maybe 3, with a stop for the occasional G&T

I've done it in 2days in a raggie, but I was in a hurry. Royal Welsh YC are doing a cruise clockwise round Anglesey starting from Caernarfon at 06.00 on Saturday 2nd May. Overnighting Holyhead & departing there at 11.00 Sunday 3rd and overnighting Sunday at either Moelfre or in the Straits.

The plan is obviously weather dependant & may go anti-clock or just to Conway & back if really poor weather. geoff Hilditch of Aslan is doing the cruise planning, but as usual, boats are free to join & leave as they wish, provided they keep Geoff informed.

Not sure if I will get permission from SWMBO to go, but if you are interested pm me, & I will pass your details to Geoff.

Likely to be a mix of power & sail (we're odd like that) and I understand that visitors will be welcome. As usual for these sorts of events, it will tend to be a bit of a running party. I will be putting details on the RWYC website shortly. Steve K

There's an organised cruise round the island on June 7th. Mainly ribs attending but anyone with a capable boat is welcome. Departing Conwy about 1030am. June 6th is a run from Conwy to Douglas IOM. Transport available on the IOM for a run up to the TT races.

More details in Ribnet in the cruising section.

fraid we dont do departure times or planning. It's more sort of bumble bumble stop stop go stop bumble.

Went round that Stacks place three times, Trying to find the way out. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
