I was just wondering what the Forum thinks about this 'expanding boat' from Wider in Italy - http://www.mby.com/news/492905/expanding-boat-from-new-company-wider

I am thinking it would be a lot easier to just go for a nice beamy powercat instead if deck space is desired..... but then the cost of marina parking would go up, so I suppose they have a valid point here......

And changing tack slightly, Professional Boatbuilder magazine had an interesting design competition recently - here they have some brief details of their winning entries.

What are the panel's thoughts re this 'long, lean and light' approach?
I think that they all look rather nice, although details are still rather sparse - it would be nice to have more info.

Wider 42:

For the minimal extra deck space gained, it hardly seems worth the effort.
I don't know if the short, narrow sponsons on either side would help that much with stability either.

Retractable sponsons seem fine on tri's, but not sure about this one.

I liked the alloy offering, it looks more like a useable boat, rather than a 'clean lines' drawing.
Maybe even the alloy option modified into a RIB?

I still have to see how Wider 42 will work out.

Apart of the opening sides a concept already introduced on the CNM 50 Continental in 2008, but here bigger and should add 50% of space I think there is much more to it.
The large jet bike tender aft, and sort of center console layout, and a very powerboat slim hull with two steps.

We are seeing companies from Italy (how new!) challenging the market and Wider is one of them. And there is a very solid team behind it what was responsible for the Pershing brand, so I would not count that out. Seeing how Pershing made a revolution on the open boat yacht cruiser design in the ninties and new millenium....
