I left Bradwell at tea-time yesterday and popped over to Salcott Creek for the first time and picked up a buoy near the top of the moorings - an excellent spot with plenty of water.

It was a beautiful evening

This morning I tacked down to the Colne, goosewinged back to Stone to pick up a buoy for a cuppa and afternoon nap, thrashed back to Bradwell for tea-time. Blooming marvellous.

Looks simply great! Very envious, now back at work so opps like that are pretty much out of the Q for me. But weekend sailing still to look fwd to. I can't believe that for some the bank hol marks the end of their season. Some great days yet to be had (I hope)!
Not been up Salcott but will mark this as great stopover.

The buoys belong to West Mersea Yacht Club and are free. If you're not sure if they are vacant then call YC1 on CH37 and ask them. This is the club launch that will come and take you ashore for a fee that is repaid on production of a receipt from YC restaurant. It is a great place just to stay and enjoy the quiet though.

Looking back on it, you must be right MS.
All bouys seem to have 2 strops on, a kind of blue/green colour.
Top draw moorings, will def go again.
Only thing is the creek is so quite, bit spookey really :D:D

Should I tell you or should I not? If you dangle a line, its a good place for bass at this time of year as well. Most are just a little bit too small but good sport none the less and occasionally you can get a 'keeper'.

The green/blue poly strops are an indication that its a WMYC buoy. There are some others there in other ownership but generally people pick them up. The club launch, however, will usually only refer you to a club mooring (or pile). Personally I regret the launch charging and doubt it was worth the cost of registration but the ruling party like the idea for some reason or other.

Thanks for the tip.

Used the same buoy on Thursday night, then on Fri morning slipped under sail to beat back out before a mess about in the Blackwater and fast run back to B'sea before the call of Beer & Curry with formite Gruntle on their return from two years in the Med dragged me off to the Kovolam!
