In Yachthaven
The Haven - bar/bistro rightly full most weekends

In the town
Egans - classy joint, need to book on Fridays and Saturdays
Spinnakers - fish and chips, usually a long queue
Lal Quilla, Indian, I'm not an Indian food lover but those that eat there say that it is good
Caffe Uno, I eat there most weeks
Ask, ditto
Wysteria, serious restaurant and serious money, we eat here for special occasions
Kings Head, pub food, some here don't like it but I've always had good service ther
The Angel, pub food, not been there but some think it good
Monsoon (?), used to be Fat Cats Bistro and after that Moose, bar/bistro, good food and wine, highish prices
Fishermans Arms, gastro pub, need to book at weekends

Keyhaven
The Gun, pub food, excellent atmosphere, nice garden
Keyhaven YC, my club, excellent Ringwood ales, sarnies and baguettes. Can especially recommend a bacon and mustard sarnie, mmmmm

Pennington
The Musketeers, excellent Ringwood ales, traditional pub, food 12-2 Mon-Sat, can recommend the Ham, Egg & Chips

You didn't mention my favourite - Lym Town Yacht Club. A pleasant 10 minute walk from the Yachthaven, serves excellent food, good beer, cheap wine and all in very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with great views in the summer.

I've heard conflicting stories about the place.

I last ate there about 3 years ago and thought that they had done a reasonable job on upgrading the tired decor but less impressed with the menu and the cliquiness, although cliquiness is a feature of a quite a few Lymington haunts. So, personally, a thumbs down but others quite like the place, I understand.

Went there a couple of weeks ago. Only ate from the "Pub" menu but the food was excellent. Restaurant menu looked very good, but we only fancied something simple. Will deff go back.

Lyminghton Larder, next to Waitrose at the top of the town, is usually good for Lunch and often exceptional for coffee and cakes. Try the Chicken, Bacon and Chilli-Jam sandwich on wholemeal bread.

Lymington update

Monsoon known as Maine.
The Haven in Lym Yachthaven, not cheap but consistently good food, you'll need to book most weekends during the season for evenings. Also, open at 8am for breakfast, bacon sarnies, etc, also do takeaway brekkies.
A little way out of town but v. good for serious food, Gordleton Mill
A little further out of town at Brockenhurst, Il Palio 2 by the railway station, excellent Italian food, again need to book at busy weekends.

Re: Lymington update

Members of the Lymington Town SAILING Club (a stone's throw from the Yachthaven) will not be pleased to be mistaken for the Royal Lymington YACHT Club (further away.) And vice versa presumably!

Further updates

A Caffe Nero is about to open in Lymington High Street opposite Tescos.
Wysteria went bust and is now under new management, no news as to what it is like.
Musketeer now owned by someone else and no longer to my taste.
For those that want to travel a bit there is now a Prezzo (upmarket Pizza Express) in Lyndhurst.
For some reason I omitted The Gun at Keyhaven from my earlier bulletins. It is a good pub with food and an easy walk from the quay, that's always provided that you can navigate to the quay!

Re: Further updates

No, wouldn't advise a night passage, the pointy heads from the IoW swim across to abduct babies /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seriously, there is a good walk along the sea wall from the back of Yachthaven marina, just follow the wall around, with a small inland detour from memory) and about 3 miles later you'll get to Keyhaven. A very pretty walk on a winter's day you'll pass no end of birds on the marshes.
