Hi all, I have just bought a 1949 built 25 ft wood boat which has, as I understand it a resin pine deck and a plywood decked housing.
During other work on the boat I am thinking of replanking the deck and changing the plywood housing. I understand it has non-marine ply so will probably need replacing anyway.
Anyone any opinions on which wood to use for a boat this old. I would like to keep it as original looking as possible whilst using modern techniques/woods (I realise the possible contradiction)
I would like to avoid the teak look as this is becoming a bit naff IMHO.

My 1898 day sailer had larch decking which was canvased over (I epoxied the canvas on) I then painted it over.

It never gave me any problems and still looked as original.

To get the larch I bought some freshly cut planks (about 4" x 12" x 18') from a large sawmill then hired a circular saw to cut them into planking.

As the planks were still green they bent into shape easily when being screwed into the deck beams.

I did not use ply under it.

Iain
