Amsterdam in the 1930s

The trams were sedate compared to today's fearsome contraptions. I'm amazed at the number of horse and hand-carts. I don't believe that London had so many by this time. Presumably the Netherlands was still poor after the war and hadn't yet become wealthy.
 
Certainly the motor vehicles look more like 1920 than 1930. Interesting film, I just wish I could understand the Dutch captions. There seemed to be some comment about which side of the road was being used?
 
I am Dutch. The right hand side was and still is used. But people did what suited best, so little has changed in Amsterdam come to think of it... 100 years ago there was hardly a "high way code" and the need to regulate traffic was enforced by the German enemy during WWII. Ordung muss sein...
