I have an Amiot mainsheet traveller system on my Beneteau first 32s5. the car is getting pretty worn and I would like to replace it.

I was wondering if anyone had managed to replace the car only on this piece of kit (preferably with one with bearings) and if so where they sourced the part and if another manufacturers kit was compatable with the track.

I have seen the Rig Rite website and they definitely claim to be able to sell what I want, but they have yet to come back to me.

any help gratefully received.

cheers

Amiot were taken over by Goiot, parts are still available. I got 2 new gib sheet travellers from Duncan's chandlers in Glasgow.

thanks for your help.

does anyone a reason why one of these wouldn't fit?

http://www.ronstan.co.uk/marine5/range.asp?RnID=047#materials

the track width is the same so i don't see why it wouldn't.

I tried to find genoa cars for my Amiot system - even tough the width of track was 32 mm there where other measurements that didn't match

You must check.
- Max width of the beam
- Thickness of the top flange
- Opening between the wheels
- Space between top & bottom flange (Diameter of the wheels)

I'm guessing that it's the wheels on the old car that's worn?
Have you tried to find some replacement parts?

yes, i even had a couple of the wheels replaced but under load they don't always rotate which causes flat spots and then they never rotate making the situation worse.

we do a bit of racing so being able to depower using the track is pretty important hence why i wanted a replacement car with bearings.

Been there...
We had an Amiot main sheet traveller with the same problem, replaced it with a complete system from Lewmar.
Lewmar have some tracks (sliding bolt and beam track) that can be retrofitted without drilling new holes.

I'm not adversed to replacing the whole (thing so long as I try not to think about the cost), but I have yet to find a system that is suitable to be fitted into the recess that the current one is in. all of the replacements i have seen have horizontal rope leads and I require one that is vertical so that the Line wont snag.

Navimo when in Hedge End sold one to me direct for ajeanneau in 2009 as it was not sold in UK chandlers

You should try Bainbridge who have taken Navimo/Plastimo over for UK I think, also in hedge end

WOW!

i have just spoken to Rigrite and the replacement traveller car is $749 before postage. I don't i will be going down that avenue!
