Some time ago this was taken of my boat when engine was changed .. as the delrin bearing ring had worn out (previous owners lack of checks). The result was the rotary blade part had gouged a slight ... maybe 0.1mm ridge into the standing blade part. I never bothered to fix it or refit.

Now the boat is here at my house and I rescued the bits from the depths of the locker ... they all still fitted, bolts still in good nick etc. I found if I turned the boss round that keeps the standing part in line - the cutter works but gap is close ... if I put it back the way it should be ... the gap is large and standing part flops around ..

So the question is ...
1. can the standing part be ground flat again .. difference would be tiny to original ... and new bearing fitted ?
2. can a new bearing be fitted and ignore the slight ridge ?
3. can the boss be turned around and used without new bearing - as long as rings have small gap ?
4. last option is 'orrible as cost of new one is *£$%^&*

I am sure if I spoke to AM - they would offer me new one ... at a price !!

Anyone else had same ?? I'm undecided what to do with it ... as I think it would be a good idea to have it back on - the river at my house has "illegal" nets in some areas ... a stripper chomping them to bits seems fitting !!!!

bit by bit ...

mmmm worth a thought ...........

I have e-mailed them for info ... as to such as normal gap between blades etc. - cause once I have that info .. I may find that I'm ok with just a new bearing ....

I have to admit that shortly after it was removed ..... this happened at Folly Inn : >

Luckily limped to Newport Town quay and "hooked" it off with boathook. Only time I've had it happen.
Look closely and you can see the V bracket still fitted ... still on today actually.

I have had a mooring rope go in the prop - when another was bringing her alongside and I overestimated their ability !! My own fault. Luckily when I shouted he put engine in neutral. He plays on his own boat now .... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: bit by bit ...

BTW, what anti-fouling do you use? Just so that I can avoid it in the future /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A-F ??? whats that ?????

She hasn't seen any for at least 4 - 5 yrs.

Just think of all that back-ache and work I saved !!! Boats a slow heavy motor-sailer anyway and made little difference clean or not .... she sat in a tidal berth with mud etc. scraping a lot of it away with each rise and fall.

Re: bit by bit ...

I have the url as a favourite ........... Steve was asking about my lovely bottom and lack of anti-foul !!

Re: bit by bit ...

Just phone them and ask, they are indeed nice people - did a small job for me once for nowt when I turned up with it.

I\'ve e-mailed them .....

See what they say ...

Having studied the fitting instr. on their web-site - I hazard a guess that the ridge wont make a lot of difference ... as the blades have to have at least 0.1mm gap anyway .... so I reckon I may just be fitting the service pack and call it a day ...

Let's see what they say.

Kawasaki .... PM box full !!

The wear on the standing part now measured is more than I estimated .... nearer 2mm, this gives a gap of about 3mm without bearings between cutters.
Now the retaining boss halves have a groove on the inside diameter ... I assume that this is towards stern-tube ? because if I turn them other way - I have a minimal gap - but couldn't be right if standing cutter was not worn ????

I've sent pictures and measurements to Ambassador - who reckoned in first reply that if wear of the cutter was not too serious - it's ok to fir new bearings. They also advised that when new the gap should be about 0.5mm between blades ... with bearings fitted.

mmmmmm just waiting to see what they say now ...
