I was out on my boat today, and decided to take everything off to take home, to service, clean, store for winter e.t.c. WELL I was AMAZED at how much was in that little boat, I had two marina trollies full of stuff, and totally filled the back of a merc estate!! I don't remember putting half the stuff on it, but I buy my boat a little present most times I go, I guess it just builds up. What worried me was the weight of all this stuff, including spare anchors, engines, heaters, charts, boating books, TV, DVD player, toaster, kettle, spare fuel, tool kits, spare ropes, lifejackets, wet weather gear, dive tank & drysuite, cutlery, crockery, spare fenders, emergency rations & water, spare boat, cooking equipment, BBQ, tables, chairs, party lighting, camp beds, emergency clothing & tent e.t.c. I think I will have to carefuly consider what is necessary for my new bigger boat next season /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Am I the only person or does this kind of thing happen to everyone? I wonder what people accumulate over the years, this is only one season for me? /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Now you know why I send the wife and kids in another car. They cant fit in the Range Rover when I put all the boat kit in it.

I can see what you mean, it is very deceiving, I have tried to think of what I don'y really need, but you just never know e.g it's good to have a BBQ just in case like last summer we suddenly decided to have BBQ, wish I had a freezer on board to keep some nice meat in though, I have problems BBQing the Safeway tinned chili con carni in my energency ration box /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif I must say I had one of the best summers ever on the south coast in my boat this year, Bloody BRILLIANT !! thanks to all who showed us around. Can't wait until this summer with my surprise new boat /forums/images/icons/wink.gif just can't get the hang of packing away the sails though /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I think you amazed us all several months back when you told us what you were stuffing into your boat and several people commented then about the weight and safety aspects. Apparently you weren't "listening."

Oh! here we go again, nobody has said that it exceeded any weight limit, in fact it is well within it, I was just commenting on the amount of stuff that seems to expand as it gets off the boat. I like to have equipment on board for all possibilities and ocassions that may pop up whilst out and about e.g. weddings, funerals, christenings, BBQ's, power cuts, engine failures, sinking boat, towing, piss ups e.t.c. Don't worry Arthur I know I have been lucky to survive this season, but will be better prepared and tooled up for the next one /forums/images/icons/wink.gif Happy Holidays /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

That looks pretty complicated, I guess I will continue looking into the bar code scanning system. Just bar code all items, including tagging crew, and scan them as they go on and off the vessel, this will give you me an instant record of what is on or off, weights e.t.c. I will have pre prepared cards for fuel and water. My local supermarket is changing their tills, I may see if I can install one on the stern, I will be able to scan provisions as well /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif I will have some electronic scales installed to check and weigh crew before boarding, it has been known for some to increase dramaticaly in weight after a few hours ashore in Studland bay /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif I will also fit a sensor on the porta potti waste unit to auto calculate dispensed weight /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Thanks for the interesting link though /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
