Am Running Scared

Wife and I are hoping to be able to get away for the last 2-3 week little cruise of our summer late next week, Easterish. But a big problem -

With all this talk of anchors always dragging so not allowed to sleep, F10 winds being impossible for man and cats (but not for Brendan and Jimi), everyone on board having to be skipper, etc I am running scared.

Even real Ship's Cat has now decided to stay home with "his" staff after reading threads over my shoulder. Should I stay and keep him company too?

Obviously you are in a high state of nervous exhaustion after a hectic summer of gales and mountainous seas. I suggest staying away from the nasty sea, and go and do some more shore based training. Scour the magazines for more orange equipment to fit, as then you can legitimately not go anywhere in the boat until its all finished and seaworthy.
If still in doubt, ask a daft orange gear related question on PBO, and then don't even think about going to sea until you have analysed all the replies, even the daft ones, and acted on them.
If you can't get a consensus on the question, you shouldn't put to sea until you have resolved them, and added more orange gear, or at least enough warp and chain to stretch between NZ and Oz.
I have an inflatable fastrack skipper for sale which is canister mounted on the pushpit for ease of use, and an electronic auto anchor weight which monitors the chain movement to the anchor at 400Hz, and inflates or deflates its own weight to provide optimum holding under all conditions. The weight control operates on the well observed sober-pished law. When sober a body appears to be able to support its own weight all day. Add alcohol in sufficient quantity, and the weight increases until the body can no longer support it. So the auto anchor weight system is prefilled with alcohol in a holding tank, and applied to the catalcoholic chain strain exchanger until anchor balance is achieved. I see you need the Southern Area heavy duty version, which hold 7.29 bottles of Whisky at 37% pure.
I tell you, you can't be too careful.

The simple answer is to call yourself a newbie
Ask a simple and straightforward question
Omit to say please
Allow self to be irritated and annoyed by the
rudeness of some of the replies
Leave forum in a huff
And voila no worries about anchors, responsibilities
of skippers or nasty winds
As a bonus you will get ten times as much work done

Simple see!

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the good advice.

Am off to spend tonight on boat to see how it goes safe and sound in the marina (is it?) and get stores on board. Maybe that will built my confidence.

Thought I would put some particular dainties on board to increase the desire to go way - like some rum, beer, and wild women (whoops not allowed those).

However, Ships Cat still says he won't go even if I load the boat with his favorite cat food and bottles of cream.

Yes /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. Is actually bright and sunny up here on the coast but am about to leap in the car to Wellington but to the boat, not the cricket - sounds like a few of the little paint touch up jobs I had planned for tommorrow morning may have to be abandoned.

See, I managed to evade talking about how the cricket was going - will be embarrassing again for us here for sure /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. Read this far in the news and hung my head
The prospects look good for Australia on day three of the second cricket test against the Black Caps. The visitors head into Sunday's play at 337 for 5. Damien Martyn is on 106, danger man Adam Gilchrist is with him on 45. Martyn says the Kiwis did not have a lot of luck on Saturday.

Ok BrianJ, where is all this rain then, eh?

Here I am, now in Wellington on the boat and bright sunny it is. On your say so I drive in with all my wet weather gear, lifejacket (in case I fall in the marina) and boots on - when I arrive and climb out of the car everyone else is in their sunnies, speedos/bikinis and goosebumps. Real galah you made me make myself /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif.

See can't do anything without a forumite leading one astray.

Now, driving down, I see all Cook Strait is covered in banks of fog which is most unusual. So worry beads in one hand and can of beer in the other I need to know whether I should rush out and get an extra radar reflector and if those shippy things will be able to see me if still foggy later in the week. What about all those ex Oz ships that shortcut through the Strait on their way to Panama - bad drivers I bet, the whole lot of them /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

Anyway, first good deed when I got here was to rescue a young lady with crossed legs who couldn't get the marina toilets door open with her key - quite a pleasant job except she didn't want me to hold her hand after, now I am concerned why not.

Oh no, I wonder if I will be able to get in later or will I be forced to do it into the marina.

Did I get away without mentioning the cricket .....? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
