Seriously, I need to wire in this switch, but (to me) the terminal labelling is completely ambiguous. Does the label mean that the open side corresponds to the number, or what could be seen as the "spade" ie connection side?
Does my question even make sense?
No instructions came with it, and I'm reluctant to phone the manufacturer cos I can't bear to go through all the really stupid/obvious questions that will inevitably ensue.

It makes no sense to me I am afraid.

The picture is too small. Can you post a larger one or a link to the details of the switch?

I can't see the label in clearly enough in the picture, I'd put a meter across terminals and see what the switch does so you can decide what terminals you need to use.
