....in thinking that Faireys are horrible.

I know that there are huge numbers of fans but I just don't geddit. I think they are positively ugly, am I missing something?

oh yes, you're definitely missing something there, my old. you should realy make the effort and come down to poole and see some real boats.... well not in the league of plastic gin palaces, but then this is practicle boating... ain't it?

comon down to poole on the weekend of 16th dec. you'll enjoy it, and see some pretty (old) boats.

No, your not alone. I have never understood the attraction of old boats, in particular Faireys. I also don't understand guys infatuation with older women, old cars etc.

However, I am rather partial to 10 yr old Scotch.

No wonder you are "Pistonbroke" :-) I dont suppose you have 4no +30 thou Perkins 4108 pistons you would like to part with do you?

Classic boats designed to operate on your actual wet water and to move about a bit, not like present wedding cake caravans designed only to be admired in Marinas.IMHO

You probably saw my besotted comments about Faireys on an earlier post. My liking for them is completely irrational but probably stems from the fact that I was an extremely sad child who had photos of powerboats on his wall rather than footballers. Faireys were then state of the art, and I have never lost my love for them. In the meantime, they have become classics and I have become, ahem, middle aged.

Well I think you may be in a small group of motorboaters if you don't like the look of them.

Obviously, "looks" are in the eyes of the beholder but I do think they look v good. Started my boating on a Spearfish and not only did it look good IMHO but its seakeeping and handling were brilliant. Not especially fast but that's what you get with a deep V and in today's terms ony moderate HP. The finish and fittings were not brilliant but the engineering and design were. The GRP Spearfish is the only Fairey I'd consider ( the cost and hassle of the woooden ones.....) but I for one am very pleased that some are prepared to cosset them and keep them going. And I think the Huntsman 31 is about the best-looking boat ever including Aquaramas.
