Does anyone know of a source for anodised aluminium (NOT stainless) tube and fittings in the 25mm to 40mm OD size range such as is used to fabricate radar arches etc??

The problem with anodized ali is that when you bend it the surface layer cracks. You'll be better off doing it in stainless.

It can be, but thats gonna be a whole heap dearer than what B1 wants to do.
I myself, think that on an old bath tub such as his you'd get away with lashing up some old 4x2 battens and painting them silver!

Have you looked down the local scrapyard where there might be some old TV aerials?

Do'nt be ridiculous your much better of with the cores from aluminium foil rolls, and then you can wrap the structure in the foil giving the aforementioned aluminium tubing!

On a more serious note, what about using the ali and then polishing it and giving it a coat a laquer. Polishing mops and soaps are easy and cheap to get.
For bending just use a spring plumbers use. Nice easy cheap and good looking.............yeah I know, don't thank me now

It was nice chatting to you as I wandered up the high street to collect my mail from the Post Office.

I quite like the 4 x 2 idea, especially as i have some silver spray paint left over from doing the xmas decorations. It would also be easy to glue and screw and quite light too which would be easier for swbmtb to lift when i shout and wouldnt hurt either of us too much if it fell down because she didnt put the bolts in properly.

On my way back from town i passed Wickes and had a quick look round and I am now thinking that plastic conduit or drain pipe might suit....they also do some nice snazzy lttle bends and clips and you wont believe how cheap they are compared with 316 stainless ! I know it needs to be quite strong but at the moment I only have a single steaming light to put on it. If I get a little radar later on perhaps I could beef it up a bit if needs be.

Please dont think Im not grateful for your help Barry...if it wasnt for you I sometimes wonder who else on here would even talk to me........./forums/images/icons/frown.gif
