I need to buy an emergency tiller for my boat which is wheel steering but has access to the rudder stock from a screw cover on the cockpit sole. I do not think these can be bought off the shelf so wondering if anyone out there can let me know if there is someone who can produce one for me cheaply.

It depends on the rudder head fitting. Mine was a simple hole through the shaft, so would be easy to get a bar machined to fit. (I already had one!)
Is it something you can drop a 3/4 drive socket onto? BoxSpanner?
Something that will stay in place is a key feature!

The end of the rudder stock which is accesable from the cockpit sole has been squared off so a box spanner or socket would fit. This would probably be a temporary solution but realy require to have a permanent one made up if possible. Guess I could make a drawing and go to a local fabricator but was wondering if anyone had done this in the past and more importantly where.

You will probably find several small firms in Yellow Pages locally. I doubt the fitting is specifically "marine", and a local bloke should be able to knock out something suitable quite cheaply, especially if it uses standard stock material.

For example I had several tapered thread bsp adaptors made for my fuel lines (£70), stainless steel inner forestay hounds for the mast (£60), 6 off 10mm stainless chainplates (a few pints) etc etc.
