View attachment 41893Sorry, title has "saving" spelled incorrectly.

I recently purchased this item.

Would anyone with more experience than I have be able to look at the photos and tell me if this item is redeemable (and if so how? use vinegar/ file away bad bits?) and if redeemable would it still safe my life at the designed breaking load?

Both sides of the aluminium appear to be corroding. Worse, it appears to be corroding from inside out, note the 'explosion' like bit of corrosion on one surface. As this pice ao ally will be supporting 14 stone upon the tangent of the through pin, what do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.

That's surprising to see on Petzl gear - I'm actually wondering if it's a knockoff.

(I have a couple of bits of Ukranian kit that are blatant copies of Petzl, though they make no pretence otherwise.)

I think your item would have to be considered suspect and not used for anything critical.

Please do not risk your life with that device in that state.

You do not know the depth of damage.

Can't help with the metallurgy I'm afraid.

Does something acidic neutralise the damage?

I would contact the following

United Kingdom

LYON EQUIPMENT LTD

United Kingdom

Phone: +44(0)15396 24040
Email: info@lyon.co.uk

with those pictures.

I suspect they will raise their hands in horror and ask you to send it to them. If it is in warranty, or a fraud, you should be getting a replacement FOC as they are keen to protect their reputation.
