Awesome trip out to Alum Bay. First time for us and loved it. Anchored up for the afternoon and just chilled. Flat calm seas. Crystal clear water. Warm, hazy sunshine with a welcome gentle sea breeze. Boy it was hot so of course the beers had to come out! :D Took a few obligatory snaps along with some on the way back up the Hamble. (well...lots of pics actually :) )
Time for a beer or two :D

Nice photos................I think it was Alum Bay where we took the kids on a boat........seem to recall a shop that had the different coloured sediment/sand and you could fill small bottles showing the different colours..............maybe wrong.

Anyway, looks lovely.

Not been ashore there myself but yeh, you can get all different shaped bottles to fill with the sand. Great spot.

I used to anchor and then take the dingy ashore. Catch the cable car to the "theme" park at the top. It is here where you can fill the bottles with the different coloured sand for which Alum Bay is renowned.

No shots of you in your bikini, lisilou, swimming in that warm crystal clear water?:D

Didn't see you Dave :(. One question...just where is that rock?? We left at low tide and were surprised to see so many boats still anchored right by it, if not over it. (according to my chart anyway).

I think Lump-E isn't quite where it says on the chart.
I walked along the cliff top, and there's a little red buoy that marks "something dark" that could be rocks.
We were anchored to the side of it, but the chart said it was further back.

Still dishing out Coronas without lime I see Lisa. :)

Looks lovely there though. We spent the day anchored at East Head with another couple of hundred boats!

Looks wonderful Lisa. First stop on our trip last year! My daughter keeps asking if we can go to the cable cars again.... It's a long way from Reading! I would recommend Totland around the corner too. Up in the bay at the Needles end. Just get the tides right!

If the weather stays like this J, we'll be trying as many spots as we can. funny enough, it was a toss up between Totland and Alum yesterday so probably Totland next time. Thanks.

We spent sat and sun in Totland Bay, was lovely and even managed a dip though the water wasn't as warm as it looked!

Do check your chart though in Alum Bay for foul ground as well as the lump. Last time we were there some unlucky folks couldn't get their anchor free and after half an hour of backwards and forwards had to cut loose.

Was in Alum bay yesterday from about 12-3. Fantastic as usual. We were joined by some friends, rafted and had a BBQ. The braver of our party were also swimming but not for long!

Great couple of days out.

Last time I was there, a couple of weeks ago, the hook came up with absolutely no mud or anything on it - an absolute first. I was out in about 6.5 metres of water though.

Just to add a few photos I took over the weekend.

Started off on the Folly Pontoon on Friday evening.

The sands are still spectacular, although these days it's not a good idea to get too close to the base of the cliff, especially in wet weather.

Then back via the bit behind Hurst Castle, and Mrs FP helmed the boat all the way back to the berth: I was relegated to Fender Boy.
