alternator tacho\'s help required
I have just bought 2 off aternator sense tacho's from ASAP supplies. I was assured that they would run off my Yanmar 1GM10 35 amp alternators.
Unfortunately there is no signal output from the alternator, so a quick search on the internet while onboard this weekend I found a pdf document relating to this problem. It said, I should take the signal from any of the stator side rectifying diodes, as a 3 pole alternator this seemed easy enough. I ended up soldering to many different places on the half moon diode assembly to no avail.
I have the circuit diagram for this assy, but not a schmeatic and as the didoes are all buried in epoxy I cannot tell which way round they are, to top matters off my multimeter has died (typical). There is a capacitor which I was told I would require, I did not receive destructions but I guess this should be in the signal line to eliminate any DC element.
Has anyone successfully linked alternator sensed tacho's to these alternators with success, can you help me to see what I am doing wrong.
The tacho also has two other connections, one to ground which I have strapped to the engine and the other to battery which I have connected to my 'white' ignition wire on the simple yanmar panel.
Any help will be appreciated.
