Evening all,
Started the engines the other evening (KAD44s) and within a minute had a battery alarm on the starboard engine. On investigation there was a water leak from around the pump/impellor area which was squirting on the alternator.
The leak has been fixed by my local guy but the alarm is still present, so to the question.
Is the alternator likely to have been destroyed or might it dry out?
Thanks

If washed quickly with fresh water you may be able to save it! They can cope with a fair bit of fresh water. If not then it may just be the connections. Take it off and get it checked.

Quick action ?

Impeller = Salt water.
Get it round to your local backstreet alternator fixer quick,they can probably sort it to get another few years service (cost £120-140) out of it.New around being £500 ?.
Have seen alternators that have been marinated in salt for several days mended.

Were in Penarth Marina so fresh water fortunately, anyway gave it a good spray with the electrical cleaner spray left it a while to evaporate and she came back to life.
