Dear all,

Please could you offer some advice with the installation of a new alternator.

I am unsure of the make of the old one but believe it has no regulator fitted, I am replacing it with a 60 amp Valeo.
Am I correct to place the brown and red wire that were attached to B+ to B+ on the valeo and the black and blue wires that were attached to D- to B- on the valeo? (The blue wire attached to D- goes to earth on the engine)

Next are what I presume are the field/ignition wires, the two red wires attached to 61 on the old alternator how do these connect with the yellow (marked +) and white (marked L) on the valeo?

Am I on the right track?

Many thanks in advance

This is mine

Hi Vic, I sent the alternator to be repaired in A coruna,Spain and much to my surprise I was informed it has no internal regulator and there is no external reg fitted on the boat. The alternator has never worked since I purchased the boat a few months ago.

Sorry I deleted my post after checking on my suggestion to look at the alternator handbook ... no help!

Id suggest yuo forget about the old one. Find out what the terminals are on the new one and wire it accordingly.

I'd tentatively suggest that B+ is the + output, B- is the negative ( earth/ ground or what ever you prefer to call it.)

Of the other two one is probably a connection from the ignition switch, the other the connection to the warning light .... dunno how these will be marked though.

I assume its used. It might be a good idea to check the brushes before fitting.
