I have a brand new Lucas alternator (ref. LRB318 70Amp) on my Bukh DV10, which will not charge. I have connected the B+ terminal to the main (live) terminal on the starter as it was before. The D+ terminal is connected to the warning light, and the terminal at the rim is connected to earth. All connections are sound and bright. Help!

I have known a few alternators require a larger warning lamp....or 12V direct to alternator to excite them sufficiently to charge first time. Afterwards they have been fine with the std w/lamp

Also, is your fan belt tight enough. 70 amps requires a couple of horsepower and if the belt isn't tight enough you wont get a charge. Approx 13mm deflection on the longest leg of the belt is what you need.
