Dear all,

Hoping you may be able to shed some light on the symptoms described below:

Alternator worked fine on Saturday. No warning lights, and 14v at battery.
On Sunday, the alternator light lit at any revs above idle, and extinguished once back at idle. Didn't have my meter with me so couldn't check voltage at battery - that's a job for next weekend.

In the mean time, are there any classic alternator faults which could manifest like this?

Regards,
Matt

The engine in question is a Sole, based on a Mitsubishi.
The light does come on as normal with the engine stopped. Although now that you mention it, it seemed a little brighter with the engine stopped, than when it was on a higher revs.

Check the brushes, may be worn or sticking.

No Adverc or other alternator controller or remote sensing?
Check brushes.
Also bearings. If the rotor is wandering about, the brushes may not keep up with it.
