Alternator boosters

I've just bought a sterling alternator booster but I haven't fitted it yet but from what I can make out from the gumf that came with it it does this.
Most alternators are designed for cars where all you need to do is start the engine and then the alternator will take over from the battery and power all your systems. Because of this it only needs to put enough charge into the battery to start the engine next time plus a little bit more. Fine, unless its fitted on a boat where you need lots of power even when the engine is off. So what it does is it puts lots of power into the batteries when the engine is running so charging them up much more than they would normally be, however a draw back of this is that the water boils off of your batteries quicker and so they need topping up a lot more. But they say the the batteries will hold around 35% more power and will re-charge up to 400 times quicker. Apparently it makes the batteries last longer also.

We have sterling regulators on our engines and they do charge the batteries a lot faster and give them a lot more charge...we also have the sterling battery monitor which shows how much charge the batteries are taking.

I have had an Adverc controler fitted to my narrowboat for 10 years it has kept my battery bank of 900 AH full the service from Adverc BM is great
