Alternatives to Westerly (Pageant & Centaur)

Judders - I don't know what sort of budget you are looking at, BUT there may well be something that could be of interest to you on the Cobra Owners Association Website If you look at the For Sale listings, there is a Cobra 750 South Coast based, that needs a fair bit of work doing to it, BUT on the face of it appears quite serviceable for offers around £3,750. Just a thought, and you would get a hell of a lot of boat for your money!

Good choice - sounds like you had an action packed weekend!

Out of interest - the Seamaster you looked at wasn't called Moonshadow was it (that was my parent's old boat and headed down to the south coast after we sold her)

Not sure, we didn't write the name down! We were joking that the Macwester that we looked at would end up being the one by way of pre-determination. Of all the civy boats I've sailed on, very few have had names that did not begin with either L or M. The Mac was called Midas.

The Seamaster had a distinctive wide navy-blue stripe between to toerail and the rubbing strake.

Wot!!! No one mentioned one of these........

When we were looking we had our hearts set on a Pageant. But then we fell in love with the Leisure 23 and generally a little cheaper. Not as bulky but just as solidly built. Just look at those substantial coamings and if you see one in the flesh, just look at its solid bow. You know its a good boat - just look at that bloke trying to nick mine!

Standing headroom for those less than 5' 9", (more height in the SL) 5 berths with a dinette that when you sit down you can look out of the windows. Heads and a hanging locker to boot.

Oh, and no plastic headlinings sagging down on you. They come with teak veneer panels in the roof.

Have a browse on the owners website http://www.leisureowners.org.uk/

I am selling my Mirage 26 as I have a new boat arriving soon.

Has been fantastic for introducing the family to sailing and exploring the Solent and beyond.
