I have been considering moving away from Anti foul paints and am looking for alternatives.

The only really sensible alternatives i have found (that i like the sound of) are Foul Release Coatings, has anyone had any experience with these?

Apologies if there is already a thread on this that i have missed or this is in the wrong place.. I have just joined.

Regards

My Apologies, i wasnt aware that multiple threads in different areas was frowned upon. I would delete this and stay with the other one , however, it isn't clear how to delete. ... So i guess just ignore this one

Good luck with that! During the time that we lived in Holland the government banned copper based antifouling. Many people tried the alternatives like silicone coatings, imitation fish and shark scales, etc. Eventually most people took their boats to Belgium and had copper based A/F applied there instead.

Fresh water is the best alternative: people who keep their boats in other than seawater have few problems with fouling. There have been a few announcements of artificial alternatives like a sort of plastic swimming pool that surrounds the boat but it's a lot of hassle if the boat is used frequently.

Coppercoat is the next best option provided the boat does not sit in the mud at low water.

My first boat had never been antifouled at 11 years old. It was kept on a drying berth alongside a jetty. Every month or so the PO would brush it down with a broom to clear any fouling.

If I could afford it I would antifoul my boat with Velox but at £30 for a small tin it isn't going to happen.

Dry sailing works for a few of the more affluent racers.
It also works for this far from affluent cruiser!

A few weeks sailing, then return to the river (where the fouling rapidly dies off), then lift out and into the cradle until it's time for another cruise. :encouragement:

You cannot delete the first post in a thread, AFAIK

You could ask the moderators to combine all three of your threads on the same topic into one.

Which river do you use as your fouling hitman? I had high hopes of the brackish water in the Lagan but I don't think it really made much difference.

I crewed on a dry sailed racer and two or three weeks is the limit for an extended time in the water without anti-foul. Do you get better than that?

At the moment, the Vilaine. I've had 5 weeks in salt water before returning to the river for a few days, then lifted out and she was clean.

Ah, that makes sense. I was wondering which river in England you could be using but didn't think that you were in France.
