Alternative Yanmar Engine Mounts

I have just fitted some Vetus Mitsteun (rubber/hydraulic) engine mounts to my 2GM20, and I am most impressed with the results - hardly any vibration transmitted to the boat, and good damping of engine movement.

I had to make some 13mm spacers and fit longer bolts for the rear mounts, but nothing too difficult.

I bought them on ebay, so not too sure of the retail price, but a worthy alternative to official Yanmar ones.

I'm not sure, as my engine didn't use the standard ones. Drawings are on vetus.com. I did need to fit 13mm spacers between the rear angled brackets and the gearbox to clear the gearbox casing, as the mounts are 100mm in diameter, so now the rear mounts are 13mm further back than previously. This did not cause me a problem, as my engine is mounted on a metal frame that is then bolted into the boat, so I just redrilled the frame. This may present a problem to you if moving the mount back a bit is more difficult.

I have just done this in Monfalcone. However I used Yanmar "copies" so as not to have to alter the engine bearers. I had already made wooden "adaptors" to fit an alternative design but changed my mind when the local engineer came up with the copies which were only slightly cheaper.
The most difficult task was undoing the nuts on the coupling to seperate gbox from shaft after seventeen years. A month of rust killer was required.
2GM20 now running much smoother and I open the throttle more to power the new Kiwi prop.
