I have a Seawhych 19 that has the interior walls carpeted. It's over 30 years old and a bit manly. I have found foam back headlining to do the ceiling, but don't fancy re carpeting the whole of the walls.

I don't want to paint it, any ideas on an alternative?

Thanks

James

I did my Sea Wych with foam backed vinyl when new.

I relined it with a the same about 11 or 12 years ago. Learnt a few tricks second time around.

Much better IMHO to do the ceiling on ply boards. Can then use a water based adhesive and avoid the dangers from the fumes of solvent based adhesives.

Boards fixed up by a combination of screws with covered screw caps into wooden pads and Velcro.

I though about polypropylene pile carpet for the "walls" but decided I liked the ease with which a vinyl lining can be wiped clean.

Hawke House Ltd in Gosport is a good source of materials and advice. http://hawkehouse.co.uk/

Owners association also a good source of advice.

'How about trying T & G UPVC facia cladding ? Not only easy to clean but also insulating.'

I wouldn't, I saw this on a boat, in Inverness as it happens, and I wasn't impressed. A boat has so many complex curves and the t & g just endede up looking like a bodge. I saw a boat on Anglesea where the owner was halfway through putting up foam backed vinyl, a taxing job but it looked 10 times better than t & g. Timber t & g may look better than plastic but still hard work. Either way sooner you than me. I just put up with paint with another coat to be applied soon.

I once sailed a home-fitted Hurley 22 that had the entire windowless interior coated with fawn coloured nylon fake fur. There was a brief fashion for the spray-on fur finishes in car customisation in the 1970s. It was certainly cosy being inside a teddy bear. How it lasted I don't know.
