Price for one inlet valve and one exhaust valve = £155.44 from a BUKH UK distributor

I asume BUKH buys them in.

Any ideas where I might find them at a cheaper price?

Do you know if the Bukh engine is based upon someone else's engine ?

When I needed exhaust valves for my genny engine, the £150 + Mastervolt valve reduced to about £15 for the Farymann original part.

Ok I'll see who I can find.

Thanks.

(Superheat - BUKH is their own original design as far as I know. Certainly not a marinised industrial engine. BUKH controls its prices very carefully, you can't get discounts anywhere and things like oill filters have no identifying marks but BUKH's own to discourage customers from buying cheaper elsewhere!)

Agree.....but doesn't mean that you can't source many identical replacement parts elsewhere. One of the most blatant examples is oil seals which are completely standard items. Another is engine mounts which can be bought readily from the main importing agent. Oil/Diesel filter equivalents are well documented on the internet. A thread only yesterday noted that the electrics are quite likely to be standard Bosch items. Castings, though, might indeed be a problem if you can't find them in the scrap yard.

Valves can be adapted but care has to be taken with the stem tips that are hardened .Maybe new guides will have to be made and fitted as well.I remember having replaced the valves on my 20 in 2003 and as far as I can remember the prices weren't that steep but I may be wrong.

Yes but my question was specifically about replacement inlet and exhaust valves. There are no markings that might help to identify them. How would I go about finding a cheaper source, please?

You're lucky (comparatively). Most engine spares for my VP MD1 are completely unobtainable at any price. Some spares like push rods are £50 each. If I were you, I'd bite the bullet - the pain of being ripped off doesn't last long.

That's true.

To be honest, I'm dithering about whether to replace them or not. They are slightly pitted on the faces due to corrosion ( although the seats are fine ) and if replacements were not so expensive, I would just have bought new ones. As it is, I'm thinking that maybe they'll do for a few more years, by which time I may not even have the boat.
