Over the weekend all 6 winches have been stolen from my boat whilst ashore. They have managed to break in by forcing the hatch, torn down healining in the saloon, galley and heads before removing all 6 Lewmar winches.

Police have been informed and offer little hope. Total cost/damage is going to be circa £7,000.!!! They left the TV video and other easy to steal things.....somebody who's knows boats unfortunately.

Please be aware of anyone offering 6 chrome Lewmar winches at a bargain price as they are stolen. They are 2x44ST 2x 48ST 2x 54ST.

Be aware, marinas are not as secure as MDL and other like to say. Oh and MDL couldnt really a less about this....nice eh.

Go t the Beaulieu Boat Jumble. Chances are you will be able to buy them back again for a great deal less than they would cost new! /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Sorry to hear your bad news. This happend to our boat a couple of years ago at the top of the hamble so i know how you feel. I guess it's boat jumble time again.

I'v stamped all our gear up now and taken note of all serial numbers. Not that it's going to stop the B****ds.

Beaulieu = Whitechapel Market?

Is that what you're suggesting James!

Well known fact in the East End.

Stolen thursday - buy back from Whitechapel Market, friday!

This attitude....

.. is not encouraged in modern political thinking.

What you SHOULD do is ask yourtself "How far am I personally to blame in being party to the creation of the causes of this theft". In fact the word "theft" itself shouldn't be used to describe this tragic social failing by society as a whole. Misguided spontaneous self motivated wealth re-distribution is more what this is and far from punishing the individual, a course of coaching and counselling is, demonstably, the wisest approach to take towards the re-establishment of these individuals into our society and re-aligning their priorities and sense of personal well-being.

AW! You're right - thrash the little b****rds within an inch of their lives

Why not try putting a WANTED ad in the local freead type papers and on-line in the adtrader/Ebay with a description of one of the winches then wait for the stupid thieving B****rd to call you up with his address and phone number?....

(errr...just be careful no one else has a genuine similar type winch for sale before you report him/her to the police though)....

Without serial numbers or some other unique way of identification, one winch looks pretty like another so the police won't be interested ... even if it was possible to prove that they were your winches the seller would undoubetdly claim that they had been bought in good faith off someone who surprise surprise they don't know their name or how to contact them.... although you would at least get the stolen property back in that case.

Having have stuff nicked (not boaty so far touch wood), I'm sorry to say that if the thief is not caught in the act the chances of being caught are slim.

Too bad, I dread something like that happening to my boat.

The same happened to a boat down at Wicormarine in Portsmouth about a month ago. Only this time it was only two winches (bad enough). Again, nothing else was stolen and no excessive damage was done. Only enough to enable the theft.

Sounds to me like someone is stealing to order.

Re: Hamble Point = No Security

I have spent hours nosying around Hamble Point, there is no effective security around the hard standing. Given the mishmash of businesses operating there and no obvious territorial split between them, security will never be good.

To be fair to MDL, Hamble Point is not their Flagship marina surely that title belongs to Port Hamble or Mercury?

Security

We keep Crystal at the Tide Mill marina, Woodbridge - one of the least expensive on this part of the coast. Late the other night, a super-bright flashlight was shone into our portlights. I stuck my head out to see what was going on, to find that the local Neighbourhood Watch were on patrol around the marina.

Very gratifying to discover that voluntary security is operating where professional isn't.

I have just this minute read your post. Very sorry to learn of this incident. I am investigating further from our end but please do give me a call in the meantime. Unlike what you say - we do care...

Go past that point - bring back hanging, as it was for sheepstealing. I really mean it - I hate political correctness.

Do you have any authority over the ineffective manning of the entrance barrier at Hamble Point?
