I remember a post not long ago about the electricity charges at Marinas falling under regulation of Ofgen and the result being that they were no longer allowed to charge exorbitant fees for carrying electricity to berths from Jan 2003. This would protect the poor down-trodden consumer etc.

Well I was unsurprised to see a notification of "All inclusive Marina berthing" from my hole in the water provider.

The note starts "We are changing our pricing structure to give you an all inclusive fee for marina berthing and use of marina facilities these include car parking, electricity, water, showers and toilets.............costly environmental factors such as disposal of rubbish etc........"

It sure sounds like a great deal to me!
and all for only a modest 11% increase too

I suppose if you add the travel costs and divide by the day's useage per season, you would have the answer!

Marina Electricity Charges

The regulator is only bothered about how much is charged for the electricity - per unit.

They can charge you what they want (or what they can get away with) for letting you plug in.

Have you done a calculation to show what your marina berth would cost you if you added in what you spent on electricity last year? If so, how close to an 11 per cent increase was it?

I ask only because I want to know. If the answer is anything less than, say 7 percent, then there is a case for crying 'RIP-OFF'. I thiink YM should be/is monitoring this.

James,

The cost of electricity is included in the new fees at £300 per year, not far off what it costs to run a house for a long while.

The issue is I don't use electricity and if I did I would run a small oil filled rad. Not exactly value for money.

The issue is really the lack of option and the cheeky inclusion of all of the naturally included items.
