Anyone know anything about visiting Algeria by boat? I worked there in the mid 70s. I drove from Oran to Algiers regularly and at the weekend drove in to the mountains, it was pretty safe in those days. Has everything calmed down now?

Sorry stu, officially no

Visa must be obtained prior to entry. It's a shame as they have a great cruising ground there, but they have no need for tourists.

I have heard and read of people transiting the coast line and basically the people are friendly enough. Allowed to stop for rest but that's it. I have read about some people able to get provisions, but this is accompanied by the authorities.

I recently done morroco from ceuta all the way to saidia, it's a different world!
