Hello all,
If like us you have an R36 onboard sharing 3G internet with the boat, you may be pleased to know that back in June Alfa updated the R36 firmware to 1.2.1.6, which now supports a bunch of newer 3G dongles.
(Here's a list of models supported by 1.2.1.6: http://www.alfa.com.tw/faq_show.php?sn=7 )
Our old E353 has been struggling quite considerably over the last couple of years, especially when compared to how the iPad behaves when the same SIM card is used in that. Whilst in Tunisia we picked up a cheap (£5 new!) E3131 dongle but unfortunately the R36 didn't like it. The new firmware adds support for this newer dongle and the internet experience is _massively_ improved, especially in areas with more saturated networks.
If you're in our position, or you have an R36 sat in a drawer as it didn't work with your newer 3G dongle, it may be worth giving this new firmware a spin!
