We are planning to take Cento up the river Alde in a weekend or twos time to have a look and find a quiet anchorage somewhere up river for the Sat night and then return to Woolverstone on the Sunday. From what I can work out, the best time to enter is HW-2 (bit like the Deben) but what is the best time to come out?

Any tips/info from forumites would be very useful and i would be eternally grateful!

I tend to enter just before high and exit at, or shortly after, high water. Some publications recommend waiting until one can see the sand banks but I prefer as much water under me as possible and stick closely to route given by the latest chartlet.

My boat draws 6' and I'd consider entry/leaving safe from HW -2hrs to +1hrs
Recommend you download the excellent entrance chartlet from debenentrance.com
watch out for the shallow patch just inside the entrance to the West of North Weir point. Recommended track is to cross over to the eastern side of the river as you come level with N Weir Point. This patch has caught a few out already this year.
Nice anchorages in the river plus visitor moorings available at both Orford and Aldeburgh.

Enjoy......

No EAST bank is not the recommended track. New chartlet was published last week, now recommends staying on the WEST bank side, following a number of boats finding (or not) the east chaneel seemingly very shallow/missing at HW-2.
