I have the PDF of the Vega handbook, but the drawings are very poor quality. I am looking for the readable drawings of the wooden cradle that shipped with the boat when it was new.

If not available, does anyone have a design for a cradle or trailer that can be constructed by a competent DIYer in wood or metal?

regards,

Denis.

If you have a ready supply of good roofing timber, then the wooden cradle would be ideal and treated with wood preservative should last you a number of years. If you can get them, then the alternative is to make a cradle from scaffolding components. I built mine to suit the spacing between main bulkheads of my Varne drivative- which handily turned out to be 12 foot - a standard length of pole. Joints can be made from tube clamps like those used on public area stair handrails. Cut down Acros make the legs.

I have a couple of pictures of boat in cradle here: http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy87/rob2hook/Mojo - my Weston 8500/cradlemojo-1.jpg

Rob.

P.S. Easy to put together if you're competent and confident with a 9 inch cutter!

I have a detailed plan for a wooden cradle for a Twister (28-foot loa, 8-foot beam, 5-foot draft, long keel) that was drawn by the builder.

I could email a copy to you if you want.
