we recently came accross a company called J Marine who are importing distress flares from Italy branded as Albatross.
They are selling them at about 30 to 35% less than the established brands. (£87 for the offshore pack)
has anyone heard of these flares or this company? before we buy i would like to find out more as i found nothing on the web in a quick search.
any info appreciated.

Instead of a cross an albatross around his neck was hung.
Remember the astronaut asked his feelings as the countdown got near Zero
'All I could think was that the whole f***ing thing was built by the company that put in the lowest bid'.

I thought it was a totally justified response. I do not like paying over the odds for marine gear, but when it comes to safety items suck as flares I like to feel that they will work 100% when I need them.

Rather than take this private why not tell us about your product on here.

Certainly an odd reply by drowning I will grant you, but if you actually read what he says its not actually unhelpful.
There have been a number of posts on cheap distress flares and also at least one in depth magazine test of several makes. The basic result being, the cheap flares either are not as reliable or the burn time is significantly less. A factor that needs to be considered when the time comes to use them in anger. An extra 10 seconds of burn time may make all the difference to being seen or not.
However I am not saying this is the case with Albatross flares of which I have no experience or knowledge.
