Following on from an earlier post where I received good advice about getting flights from Athens am now looking at how to catch the bus. I have found a bus that goes from Preveza via Atkio at 12.20pm, but unfortunately no one seems to know where the bus stop in Atkio is. Would appreciate any help as to it's location - many thanks

Did this a couple of years back so it might have changed.

The bus stop then was just by the toll booths on the Atkio side of the tunnel (a fair walk if you have a lot of luggage so you might want to get a taxi through to Preveza anyhow). Be aware though that we had to buy our tickets in advance at Preveza - you could not buy on the bus. Also make sure the bus you choose does indeed go via the tunnel as not all of them do.

The busses I have caught recently have gone north round the inland sea and not through Vonitsa. I *THINK* some do run via vonitsa still but not sure which ones.

Otherwise you are stuck with a taxi ride from the bus terminus in Preveza to Aktio yards. Depending on which yard you are with you may be able to organise a free pickup.

Standing at the traffic light south of the Toll booth at Aktio will usually allow you to flag down either the Athens or the Levkas busses.

some timetables available on http://www.theionian.com/ under the travel schedules tab

Athens bus

Caught the bus at Aktio a couple of days ago. The bus stop is before the tolls, nearest side! There is a small shelter with a seat. The bus arrives about ten mins after leaving Preveza. We walked from the yard (Preveva Marine) and it took 35 mins at a fairly slow pace. We went to the bus station to get the tickets the day before , 37euro each. As per other post not all buses go via the tunnel. Journey time was 5 hours.

What time was the bus you caught from Aktio.

I suppose the ticket office in Preveza when you paid the fare in advance arranged for the bus to stop at the Aktio busstop? Otherwise it just hurtles right by unless you have arranged in advance for it to stop.

Incidentally, it is my understanding that the North or South route to Athens also depends on the Summer/Winter season so don't get causght out with an old timetable

Buss from Aktio

The bus was the 09:15 from Preveza, we bought the tickets the day before and the guy in the ticket office at the Preveza buss station asked us if we wanted it at Aktio. Didn't realise I stood out as so obviously a yachtie!!
