I'm thinking about purchasing an Akerboom twin screw diesel with Parsons/Perkins 4107 engines. About 35'. But why oh why are these classic steel boats fetching such a high price, when in good condition. I have seen prices of between £85K and £400K.

They don't need to be.

I think there will be 2 types of boat on offer;
1. Original boats from the 1960's that have been adequately maintained and nothing more. These are just "lovely old boats" that will have plenty of rust in the hull, worn out 50 year old engines with the potential to be "beautiful old boats" so long as your pockets are deep and you don't wish to go boating for some considerable time.
2. Boats that have had a fortune spent on them and the owner is trying to recoup some. The boats are not necessarily worth that unless you are the .001% of the boat buying market. Be prepared for a long wait when it comes to trying to sell at that level.

The above link will show the 2 extremes very well.
Don't get me wrong. All done, I would love one of these but at the higher prices I would need to think long and hard.
