After they sent me an inflatable dinghy different from the one I ordered, tried to persuade me to keep it, made me pay for delivery of it back to them, then had all my letters looking for refund of postal costs to their published addresses returned unopened, I vowed never to buy from Marine Megastore again. I have just found that I have indeed bought from them - with a package arriving from them clearly marked 'Marine Megastore'. They are obviously hiding their identity and using other business names. 'Nautical Gifts' in this case.

As they say, on the internet no-one knows that you're a dog.

They're well known for using various aliases - there was a thread a while back that collected a dozen or so. You can usually tell by a certain familiar style to the site.

I've decided to restrict my purchases to a very small number of suppliers that I trust. They may not always be the cheapest, but they will be fair and if they say that items are in stock, then they probably are. If there's a problem, I know that they pick up the phone. If there's a big problem, I know that they have proper premises to call round at. And, last of all, I know that none of them are a front for Marine Megashambles.

Of all the many posts about Marine Megastore that have appeared on this forum, I can't remember ever seeing one that said anything good about them.

My only experience of MM was bad enough to ensure I would never deal with them again.

My only experience of them was the attempted purchase of a pair of 2 piece oars for the inflatable dink. They sent me the top halves and could not tell me when the other bits would arrive. To be fair they did refund the postage costs when I returned the half oars but I haven't and won't be knowingly dealing with them again.

Sorry to hear it dgadee - I did warn in a previous thread of the guise of "Nautical Gifts" being Marine Megastore (Obviously piggy backing off Nauticalias theme), but as they say - A sticky would be good! - I actually tried to highlight this on Trustpilot - but they reported my post and it got removed because mine wasn't an "actual review" and mentioned "other companies"..

Incidentally, if anyone wishes to express their dissatisfaction with MM on Trustpilot : https://www.trustpilot.co.uk/review/www.marinemegastore.com

Incidentally - Under Distance Selling Regulations, if they have not given you a copy of the DSR in "Durable format" (IE, Email or Letter) in reasonable time to conclude the transaction- stating that they expect you to bear the costs of the return, then they cannot enforce that.

I would report them to the relevant Trading Standards.

WATCH OUT FOR:

Force Chandlery (Not Force 4)
Waveline Chandlery (Not the waveline brand as distributed by Marathon Leisure - can you see the theme here?)
Nautical Gifts as stated above.
Direct Chandlery
Nautical Bookstore

All 5 are Marine Vaporstore!
