Just helped someone connect a Nasa AIS to a plotter. There seemed to be no data at first and then discovered a "high speed NMEA" option on the plotter. Set this and it started working. Apparently the AIS NMEA data is supplied at 38,400 BPS while the standard NMEA is at 4,800 BPS. The manuals for the AIS and the plotter did not tell me this. So if you have a "high speed" option on the NMEA port, try it.

yes I set the baud rates to the correct setting and get half the info with the ships moving on the plotter 'til the plotter crashes and reboots.
