Hi
I have a Standard Horizon GX2100 radio that has a built in AIS receiver.
I wanted to add a AIS transponder but wonder about compatibility?
I will program the Raymarine AIS 650 with the MMSI of the boat and disconnect the high speed AIS radio output to the chart plotter replacing with the Seatalk Ng from the AIS650.
How will the GX2100 react to hearing its own MMSI?

Anyone done something similar?

Regards

Bob

We have a GX2200 with a similar setup.
The GX2200 filter out own target from the list / screen.
But it will send own target on NMEA 0183 HS, so when we tried to use AIS data from the VHF on the Furuno NN3D we got a phantom ship following us.(Furuno can't filter own MMSI)
The the transceiver (em-trak) does not show own target, (don't listen when it transmits)

Given the Transponder will transmit and receive is their any setting on the radio that you can switch the receiver off?

We have the 2200E with AIS 650 as well. As we will travel long distances, I wanted better reception so we installed a dedicated 2.4 M AIS antenna on the stern. Works extremely well with detection ranges exceeded 100 NM on most days. It was a great tool when transiting GIB-Madeira.

Cheers,

This is one or the reasons I went for the much cheaper GX2000 which has all the functionality of the later GX2100 but needs and external AIS receiver/transceiver.

BTW I have my fixed GX2000 and an older HH DSC VHF and I can make a call to my own MMSI number as receive it on my HH DSC radio and visa versa.

Dont see the point of turning it off.
The GX2200 can call AIS targets using their MMSI if I turned reception off I would also turn this feature off.

To simplify things, but I have to admit I've never called or been called using my MMSI number. I wonder if many people have?

After I set mine up I tested my GX2000 by calling friends on their boats with a direct DSC call. I also checked the position request and response between my fixed and HH DSC radios.

Haven't used it anger yet through.

Thanks for all the feedback
I have used the speed dial feature to call approaching vessels and its great
Good to hear there is compatibility
I will get an AIS 650 I think
To stop the boat looking like a Russian Trawler I thought an antenna splitter would be a good idea and have an aerial high on the mast
There is the Raymarine and some slightly cheaper alternatives that also give an output for the fm radio
Any experience with any of these?

Many thanks to the contributors so far
Cheers
