What prompted my question was the manufacturers fitting instructions of a couple of transponders, which both advised fitting the transponder aerial at least 3m high, based on safety distances. I have now decided to fit an active splitter (Vesper) coupled with a Digital Yacht AIT2000 transponder. I already have new (good) coax and a new metz aerial, so I should get good performance for both VHF radio and AIS.
