Have a dedicated receiver antenna for AIS on a pole and would like to install a AIS transmitting antenna.
Would it be possible to install the transmitting antenna next to the receiving antenna

Any experience?
Erwin

AIS transmitters invariably receive as well, so you would remove your current receiver and connect the transmitter in its place, including to the existing antenna.

Yes, you can install the GPS external antenna close to the VHF band AIS antenna.
No, you do not need a separate antenna to recieve and transmit AIS data, the same single antenna will both transmit and recieve.

I wouldn't install the GPS antenna near the AIS antenna. GPS antennae work best close to sea level; AIS antennae need some elevation for better range.

If your AIS has an internal GPS you should not need an GPS antenna, assuming you are in a boat that is not made of metal (and even then it might work - my wee handheld works in aircraft, but they are a bit thinner).

With my McMurdo M10 unit, it's not recommended to have a horizontal distance between antennae of less than 3 metres, and a vertical distance of less than 2 metres.
